            Cities in Jordan

            The City of Petra

Located on the slope of Al-Madbah

Mountain, Petra is considered a historical

            city in Jordan.

Before becoming a city of independent

Jordan, Petra was part of the Nabataean

Kingdom, and it was considered its

            capital. The Nabataeans were nomadic

Arabs who developed Petra for their

trade and established their trade routes

through the city. Petra became a UNESCO
Ad Deir in the ancient city of Petra, Jordan
World Heritage site in 1985, and it is now

Jordan’s most visited city, with almost

800,000 tourists visiting it each year.

            The City of Amman

Amman is Jordan’s most populated city

with over 4 million people, and it is its

cultural and political center as well.

The oldest human statues were found in

Amman dating back to 7250 B.C.E., which

makes an evidence of people settling in

the area thousands of years ago. Amman

today is considered one of the fastest

growing cities in the Arab world. Roman ruins in Amman, Jordan
