The Abbasid Caliphate versus the Safavid Empire

            The Abbasid Caliphate

Taking Baghdad as their capital, the Abbasids were

known for their knowledge and wisdom,

developing in science, culture, philosophy, and

invention, which made their ruling period known

as the Islamic Golden Age. The Abbasid Caliphate

took control of the Islamic Empire in 750 C.E. and

ruled for around 500 years, where the Islamic

Empire ourished. The Abbasids’ rule ended by the

invasion of Egypt by the Ottomans who took the

Abbasids’ lack of political power to their advantage. Mosques of Amir Sarghatmish and Ibn Tulun,

            The Safavid Empire

Considered a turning point in Iranian history, the

Safavid Empire was behind the development of the

country and the establishment and the spread of

Islam around the area, making the Shia Islam the

o cial religion of the empire. Ruling from 1501 to

1736, the Safavids took the city of Ardabil as the

center of their control to what we know today as

            Iran, Azerbaijan Republic, Armenia, Uzbekistan,

parts of the North Caucasus, Georgia, Afghanistan,

parts of Turkey, Syria, and Iraq.
